Xmas Party 2009

The word had gone out that a great party location had been discovered on the banks of the Clarence River at Seelands. Club members from the Gold Coast and Tamworth made the journey to enjoy the great outdoors.

There was plenty to do in the water which was clean, warm and gently flowing. Many tried their best to get dragged behind the boat. Food and drinks were flowing and many enjoyed the camp fire and talking late into the night.

Caravans, campers and tents provided accommodation and constant hot water galore from the 'elephant' near the river.

Club presentations were made and well deserved awards passed out.

Well done to the organisers.

Commando Style

Well, the Club gathered at the appointed time which was changed by the Club Prez from what had been agreed at the meeting the previous Wednesday because he wanted an extra half an hour in bed after a hard night out. Even then he managed to almost get there late.

The challange was on, who was going to try and get up Commando after half a metre of rain in the past week. The track was dry but littered with rocks and debris from the past storms and floods. These included a 1 metre tree truck hastily cut at the top which had to be navigated over.

Those who were newly impressed with the 'value' of their jeeps confidently said 'Not for me' but with eights and sixes screaming the brave ones 'had a go'.

Airing down was the first priority and then hoping that the ARB locker lines had not come adrift was next.

The Chief (who had probably been practicing all week) went first and cruised to the top with minimal difficulty (but with a lot of experience sitting behind the wheel)

A Wrangler was next but had some issue with something important and had to be set aside.

A FSJ was next but the difficult loose rock and deep gullies made the job too hard

Another Wrangler was on the run and managed to get through the gullies, ruts and ledges to get to the top.

Heading along we all went up Army and settled down for lunch.

After the delights of lunch, off down Rocky we went with brakes groaning under the pressure. Then along up some other tracks - the engines could be heard in the distance with motors at top revs and gearing as low as it could go.

We had a great time and are all looking forward to the next.

Jetty Foreshores Picnic

Jeep Days

The invitation went out a few days before,
to invite Club members down to the foreshore,
all the jeepers were happy,
and some were quite  yappy,
girls at the table,
and the boys still standing stable,
the talk was all jeep,
some to go and the ones to keep,
Shrek and Chiefie were there,
both looking debonair,
all the rest had some fun,
yakking and chatting in the sun.

CAMP COFFS 2009 RELOCATED

Following flood damage to the Nana Glen site, Camp Coffs basesite has been relocated to the Coffs Harbour Showground. This is adjacent to the Harbour City Holiday Park (formerly Coffs Harbour Tourist Park) on the Pacific Highway near the centre of Coffs. The new site is well located to all services and within a short walking distance to Clubs, Hotels, shopping and other venues.

The Service Centre directly opposite has fuel, pharmacy, fast food and small shops,  and some washing bays.

Additional security arrangements (patrols, IDs, etc) are being put in place to ensure camp site security during day trips
.

Directions to the new venue:

Coming from the North - Brisbane
Drive into Coffs from the north past the shopping centres and through one set of lights, under the railway bridge and through a second set of lights. Keep going until the third set of lights (Shell Service Station on the left) are you are almost there.
Take the first turn through the gates to the camping site and follow the signs to the reception centre - this will be to the left as you drive through the gates.

Coming from the South - Sydney
Drive into Coffs and pass through a number of traffic lights until you reach the main CBD - Coffs Harbour Hotel on the left, shops etc on the right. Drive through one set of lights and across a bridge at Coffs Creek. The Harbour City Holiday Park is well signposted on your right. Drive along about 300-400m and there is a turning lane to the right which will take you into the Camp Coffs Grounds. This is directly opposite a fuel and small service centre. Follow directions to the reception centre as before. If you miss the turn don't panic. Keep going to the next set of lights - Shell Service Station on your right and turn right. Do not do a U-Turn at the lights or your Jeep costs will be increased. Just turn right drive along about 200m and there is a small park/parking area where you can do a legal turn and come back onto the Highway.

Camp Coffs 2009

The preparations for Camp Coffs 2009 are rapidly being made as Easter approaches. See your latest issue of Jeep Action Mag to find out where to book. Once again Camp Coffs is being heald at Nana Glen Equestrian Centre with all the fine features of last years event.

Club Members have been busy attending meetings, planning trips and trying to do the big balance of 'how hard will it really be if it rains?'

These are some of the boys doin' it tough out on the trail clearing detail. Some were heard to mutter 'This ain't living, Barry" but the work went on.
Then there were the boys doing the 'heavy lifting' Here is the Chief showing some fine style on the lantana
And this is some of the stuff we were working to clear. Great tracks for a great camp

The tracks have become quite rutted after the recent rain and drivers will need some skills to keep out of the holes and hold traction.
