Club Presentation Night

There was a big turnout for the Club Presentation night held at the Kegel Barn on 21st November.

Lots of noise and many smling faces.

Tracey couldn't stop thinking about flying and here she is trying to trick the Club President into looking up into the sky for her helo

The crowd was able to have a few exotic drinks and food just seemed to keep on coming.

While
we were there it seemed natural to try out the attractions and pretty soon everyong was putting bowls down. Here is Zane showing a bit of style and

then some of the more dedicated participants tried out synchronised bowling to the delight of on-lookers.

During a pause the Club President reminded members what they were here for and handed over the Club Vice President for the next stage of proceeding.

Holding the coveted prize aloft Mr Vice outlined the circumstances, deeds and events that went into consideration for the prize.
The crowd was attentive and interested as the envelope was opened

And the winner was Max with his magnificant water jeep design which can be seen elsewhere on the site

Two proud winners

Many thanks to Jacko for the great work on trophy preparation.

The Club gathered at the appointed time at the traditional meeting place of Home Base. Plenty of parking and time for a coffee.

The Club Prez was ready to tough it out in the van and even managed to bring a sleeping bag for the offspring in case they got cold not sleeping in the van.

After an uneventful trip through Grafton, the Summerland Way and some places that didn't appear on any GPS we arrived at Emu Creek. If the access road to the camping area was any indication we were in for a great time.

We had met the Chief at Casino and were pleased to see that he had brought along a spare Jeep in case there were any issues with the larger version. Luckily the weekend progressed well for the Chief and the back-up didn't come off the trailer.

Zane managed to get there in mostly one piece although Precious was under repair through-out the weekend. She did manage to come home to Coffs under the careful encouragement of Zane occassionly muttering 'stupid Jeeps' over Ch 18.

The roads and tracks at the park were under-going restoration and expansion so the map gradings didn't quite match the roads but there were enough rocks, creeks and hills to keep most happy. Day 1 involved some of the heights of Emu Creek and an introduction to the 'rollovers' which seemed to be a feature of most access roads. Day 2 was similar and involved some searching for creeks and water. Zane needed if most after his radiator leaked.

Meanwhile back at camp Denis' new beauty was sitting quietly. It was only disturbed when Denis came over to brush off some dust. Big Bird is still in the shop getting ready for Jamboree.

Night time revealed a bunch of Jeepers telling lies around the camp fire. As the night went on the lies got bigger and the memories more sketchy. See if you can pick the faces from our hidden camera. The ones with their eyes open are telling the most lies.

Back on the tracks for Day 3 and the Ed-in-Chief was happy that everyone seemed to be negotiating the tricky rocks with care.

And then there was Matt. Thinking that the way everyone else had gone was wrong Matt had a experience in recovery under the watchful eyes of experts and novices alike.

Yep. this is what it looks like. Dana 35s not at their best.

Tool boxes and Jeeps were searched for parts and spares and tools. Unhappily no one was carrying a spare left hand C clip rear axle and Matt's machine was secured to be recovered another day.

Back at camp and not worried too much about the XJ in the bush most went mudding while others packed up to head home.

Back on the road and a masterful repair on a JK involved assessment, calculation, discussion, borrowing, welding and a good deal of safe traffic management. Eventually the JK was road ready and got back to Coffs safely

It's July in Coffs Harbour so what do Jeepers want to do ...go driving. This is a group of Club members telling lies about what they have been doing or what they are going to do next.

This is a group of club members not telling lies about what they have been doing or are going to do.

The trip started from the Trip Co-Ordinators chosen spot and nobody minded that it was outside his house. For some, it did mean an early trip to Maccas to get the obligatory trip breakfast.

The Trip Co-Ordinator impressed a few people by producing an up-to-date map of the run and even had plans of what we we going to look at. The trip started smoothly heading out over Red Hill and out to the remnant old growth forests to the west of Coffs. There were six Jeeps in the line-up ranging from the Classic '72 Wagoneer to the latest JK.

This is the Jeep Action JK decked out in sponsorship colours.

We travelled into the forest and met an unexpected barrier consisted of a 1 metre tree across the track. The bikes had been crossing it using a small platform, however, as no one was interested in removing a years supply of firewood we decided to go the other way.

Up into the tall growth along new tracks that appeared to have been recently cut to explore the logging options for the area.

There was enough lantana for the Club Prez to thank that he had brought his son's XJ along rather than risk scratches on his highly polished beauty.

This is a 50year timber span bridge crossing a 15m drop. Only a few ventured across to enjoy that feeling of space under the legs.

This is an area of wild scenes of raw natural beauty. No it's not a Jeep but we do understand. This is a great photo to have a closer look at.

Pristine waterfalls, rock pools and cascading creeks were the reward from this run... and there was a bit of mud along the way.

Airing back up.

A great trip and a great finish at the aptly named Magic Pool with a wonderful blue lustre.

Wednesday Night Run

The club gathered precisely at 6.00pm, just after dusk, at Macca's North. Nine jeeps in all and headed north through Korora, climbed the steepness of Lovett's Road and along Rover Trail to Bruxner Park. Adrian had to do some quick filling under lights when his oil pressure began to fall on some of the steeper inclines. It was here that we had the rendezvous with a couple of late Jeeps, including the Club President who offered 'unforeseen events' as the reason.

We then headed north along Polyosma Road and through the creeks and mudholes to Settlers Road. Tracy was enjoying her first night run and experiencing 'mud under lights' for the first time.

Heading out from Settlers we turned onto Bucca Road and then along Eastern Boundary Road where the preferred route to the dinner spot was blocked by a locked gate. Nevermind, there are plenty of roads, we proceeded along Marys Waterhole Road to Sherwood Road to our utilmate destination - the top of Widowmaker. As we arrived at the top of the hill we were greeted by the welcome sign of a roaring fire courtesy of Zane and Stef.

Eskies were quickly unpacked, and Jeepers started to tell lies around the fire. With the bright stars of the Milky Way and the Souther Cross above we kept warm standing around the fire until it was time to regretfully head home.

Where we went on Wednesday Night

May Club Run

And this is where we all had lunch
And guess what we found wandering around. A bogged Nissan.

And this is how you get one of these out of a big hole

May Club Trip

We had headed out from Bonville through to the Promised Land looking for more great tracks. It was really for a placid picnic run but it is the Coffs Coast and it has been raining. This is Jacko in the WW2 jeep from JAA getting ready to negotiate a river crossing

In Jacko goes

And this is where the water gets to. Jacko said that the Jeep floated up about halfway across but he had enough momentum and the occasional ground touch to get him across.

"Did I really do that"

This is Shrek going through the same creek. Snorkel in place and no worries at all. What would Max have done?

Where we went!

April Club Run

The April Club run is going to be a style for 2008. Instead of checking out lantana the Club is going to the Dorrigo Plateau area for an easy run. Please bring your picnic baskets for lunch. Departure time is 9.00am from Maccas North. If you want breakfast get there earlier.

This is what Overlander on line mag has to say

"There are two tracks in particular that are worth having a look at. Apart from the Cod Hole track that has some interesting detours in its own right, there's the track to Flaggy Falls and another to Mobong Falls. These tracks are not difficult to travel, and they allow access to some very spectacular country.

Crossing Flaggy Creek through axle deep water can be a little rough, but not too difficult, and you can pull up for a while and check out the views and maybe clamber down some rocks to get a better look at these small but picturesque falls. Mobong Falls on the other hand plunge about 150 metres into the gorge below them, and can only be viewed by way of some very strenuous bushwalking. Once again you are reminded of the power of the water here with some very big logs wedged into the rocks at the top."
